The hilly countryside provides a delightful landscape with orchards, vineyards, a
botanical protected area (Cambarinho) and forest land with clear streams. At
short distance there are high mountains (Caramulo and Gralheira) ideal for
motorised tours, hiking and adventure sports (information at the local tourist
offices). The chapel of S. Macário in Gralheira offers one of the most surprising
viewpoints in the whole country.
Medicinal waters can be found at the spa of S. Pedro do Sul, only 3 km from
"Casa de Fataunços". There is a golf course, Monte Belo, to the south of Viseu,
30 km from Fataunços.
History lovers will find endless points of interest which start in pre-history,
passing through Roman (the "balneum" at S. Pedro do Sul spa) and medieval
times (the cathedral and the old quarters in Viseu and the romantic church in
Vouzela). Several museums in the region gather pieces which are a heritage of
the past civilisations. But if you are keen on art do not miss Museu Grão Vasco
in Viseu, where you will find treasures of Christian art and some masterpieces of
Portuguese painting throughout the centuries.
